Had to happen sooner or later! On the 71 south.
Learnt that a lowered rear end, with a larger gas tank that sits lower makes life tough for the tow truck guy and his roll back (and me standing there saying “whoa, whoa, whoa”). The tow truck guy was good though and we got it on there and off again with minimal scraping (we used 4×2’s, rocks piled up, scooped away the gravel under the gas tank to give more clearance and make less angle). I was pissed off though, first time I have broken down and stuck enough to use AAA. Murphys law as I didnt have my tool bag with me that I normally always carry in whatever old car I am driving and being a freeway, I just didnt want to F around and risk getting hit.
Fuel, or lack thereof is the problem. Since I bought the 49, I have replaced the tank, rekitted the carb, new fuel pump, I left the old lines in but blew them out and put in a fuel filter. Maybe its crap in the lines? It was humming along, then started kangaroo’ing then nothing (and yes it had plenty of gas in the tank. I filled it up about 30 mins before hand!). I’ll check into it later in the week…
Looks sunny where was the BLACK CLOUD ???
Sorted it out. Was the fuel pump. It has a valve of some sort that sits in a hole between the diaphragm and the outlet side. That had fallen into the area below and wedged itself in. So the diaphragm couldnt move to pump. New pump installed and its away to the races (the slow races!). I hope this one has better longevity.
