Some updates on the ’40:
I fabbed up a gooseneck oil filler so that I could keep the Stewart Warner heater in its original location. After that, I fabbed up a coil mount (like what I did on my roadster) to use the generator boss on the intake. I picked up some ’46-48 spark plug wire tubes from Baxter (also as I did on my roadster), and then lowered and moved them inboard to better fit with the Navarro intake. I also drilled the bottom of the intake for a vacuum line, which runs out the back through a bulkhead fitting by the fuel pump stand base. That is going to feed a vacuum distribution block, which I plan to mount under the passenger toeboard, to feed the SW heater, wipers, and Columbia.
I sent Mike Herman the intake setup as he was finishing up the engine. He fired it last week and broke everything in, so it should be on its way to Michigan pretty soon. It’s an identical build to what’s in my roadster – 284ci, making 196hp.
I sent out the new and reworked original suspension parts to the powder coater, and got that stuff back last week. I reassembled the front end completely, and it’s now resting under it’s own weight. I had to make a lower sway bar mount on the rear axle, so I fabbed a simple gusseted bracket. I made a link using a heim joint, and bushed it at the sway bar. I only put the main leaf and a few supporting leaves on the rear so that I could control the ride height for building the exhaust (which will take place this week).
I lapped the rear drums to the axles today, and threw the wheels on it so I could roll it outside – and most importantly, get a photo to send in with my LSRU registration. Keep in mind, the front of the car is lacking a complete engine (only a bare block), battery, and fluids. I’m thinking the car is going to settle out pretty nice.
