I’ve been busy cleaning more mouse remnants out of the 49 Sport Coupe Deluxe and managed to pickup a 261 engine (same family as the 216/235, the truck version of the 235). I got lucky (thanks to a tip from Mark) and picked it up (thanks to Rudy – you should off seen that motor in the back of the Honda!) locally from Kevin who works for Alan Grove. You guys have probably seen the 46 (?) Ford 4 door sedan Kevin built, super clean and well thought out car. If some of that rubs off on my project, I’ll be all the better for it!
Anyway I thought I’d post an a photo of the Chevy after a good spit and polish session. And the start of the jigsaw, heres the 261 block, the clifford intake and the Weber 45 dcoe carbs that will end up on the car (still attached to a different intake, with the clifford sitting on top for the photo). I picked up some fender skirts (spats as I would have called them) and put the on. I’m not sure if they will stay, as long as the rear is lower than the front I think they work. I’ll see how it looks when I get around to lowering it and sorting out wheels/tires.
Other than that, I have honed and rebuilt the brake master cylinder and front wheel cylinders. New brake shoes on the front. Waiting for parts so I can do the rears. I redid the missing wiring, rebuilt the carb, made plug wires, put in some new ignition parts and the old girl fires up and idles away quite happily. Its kinda fumey out of the road draft tube, but maybe after I get it safe for the road, a good drive will sort that out?
